Partystrands - a new SMS controlled collaborative social jukebox is coming to a bar near you! The nearest I've expereinced to this is the iPod DJ parties I've been to in Manchester, Liverpool and in Amsterdam, they seemed to work, or at least it was nice to have a go at DJing with your iPod; the idea you are in control is rather powerful afterall. And we are all used to the traditional jukebox, right? Partystrands will let you and your friends play music from your playlist in a bar via your mobile. It comes packed with all the social media tools you'd expect - voting to promote your track etc. It seems you pay by SMS (and I'm not sure how much it costs) but this could be prohibitive. So can 'PartyStrands' be the next big hit in bars and clubs? Maybe, we'll see when PartyStrands (by Mystrands) launches on September 14th. To me it seems like one of those ideas where you just think 'surely no one will pay for this' - but maybe nowadays there are enough kids out there who just wanna take their music with them (and make everyone else listen to it)!
Hi Katie,
There is a post on partyStrands blog with pictures from the beta launch party in Madrid.

From the blog:
"In the end the crowd managed to influence their favourite Spanish pop-rock songs upfront and sang them all along together! Might not be your cup of tea but just imagine that can happen in your favourite bar with your friends and your favourite music :-)"

Thanks Rudy,
Looks really great, I'll be interested to see what the musical styles are in various venues - if you go to a plush / trendy bar, will the crowd be tempted to kitsch it up a little??
